We are happy to give your child both prescribed and non-prescribed medication, such as cough mixture, Calpol or Nurofen, teething gel, barrier creams etc, but only if you have signed a parental permission form for us to do so. Please note however if this is the first time your child(ren) has been given any medication which may have an adverse affect on them e.g. antibiotics, MMR, etc, we would request that you keep your child at home, and monitor the child(ren) for up to three days after the first administration. If this stipulation has not been met we reserve the right to not administer the medication to your child(ren). (Please see our Exclusion policy).
It is vital you inform us of any medication you may have given your child before they arrive at the setting. We need to know what medicine they have had, the dose and time given, this will be recorded on our Administering Medication sheet.
We will ensure that all medication will be stored correctly and safely, and will check it’s still within its expiry date.
If your child has a self-held medication please obtain an additional one for us, to be kept at our setting, as even older children can easily forget to bring an inhaler. If your child has acute allergies and carries or needs an Epipen, please discuss the matter with us. (Please also see our Asthma policy).
All medicine given to us to administer must be in its original bottle/container. It must have the manufactures guidelines on it and if a prescription medication the details from the doctor/pharmacy.
All medication given will be recorded and parent(s)/carers will be asked to sign.
