Laminate/Hard Flooring

The flooring in our setting is either, laminate, hardwood or tiled. Each day it is vacuumed and mopped to ensure that it is clean for the children to play on. Whilst this makes it a hygienic surface it does pose some slipping hazards. We have therefore put together the following procedures to reduce the risk of incidents with the children;

Children are not allowed to walk around the rooms wearing just socks. Parents are requested to provide indoor shoes or slippers, or alternatively to go bare footed.

We are very careful to ensure that any chemicals used on the floor do not contain any polish which could make the floor slippery.

When babies progress to toddling and are attempting to take their first steps we put down mats to make it softer when they tumble and to make it an easier surface to develop their walking skills. Parents will also be requested to provide indoor soft shoes with suitable grip to assist.

Any spills on the floor will be cleaned immediately to ensure that the floor doesn’t become slippery.

Children are not permitted to slide along the floor and parents are asked to support this house rule when they are on the premises and if they have laminate/hard flooring at home.
