It is very important to prevent the spread of germs and illnesses, and that hygiene procedures are in place and strictly adhered to.
Children are encouraged to wash their hands after going to the toilet, touching animals and playing outside. They must also wash their hands before eating any meals or snacks.
We will assist the children in hand washing, ensuring that they are washing and drying them correctly.
We provide a hygienic paper towel dispenser and a touch free sanitising soap dispenser in the downstairs toilet and washroom for the children’s use.
We are happy to help children to clean their teeth after meals, if you request us to do so and you provide us with a toothbrush and toothpaste.
We will assist children with wiping their noses when they have colds and try to teach them how to blow their noses. We will explain to them the importance of safely throwing away used tissues to prevent the spread of germs. We have provided a hygienic pedal operated bin for the safe disposal of used tissues, which is emptied and sanitised on a daily basis. We will also encourage them to put their hand over their mouths when they cough.
In order for us to carry out these procedures effectively we will need you to provide us with enough resources, for example nappies, labelled cream, spare clothes for the children etc. We also request that you let us know if your child is feeling or has been unwell.
We will not mind a child who has had an upset stomach in the last 48 hours or any highly infectious condition, for further information please refer to our Sickness Policy and our Exclusion Policy.
We will disinfect our changing mat between changes and have a touch free sanitising gel dispenser adjacent to the changing station.
We will follow strict hygiene routines in our kitchen, ensuring our fridge and freezer are at the correct temperatures and that the food is stored correctly in them, this is carried out as part of our daily risk assessment. Fridge and freezer temperatures are visually checked at several points throughout the working day. We utilise colour coded chopping boards and knives when preparing food, in order to prevent any form of cross contamination.
All plates, cups and utensils used by the children in our care, are hygienically washed at high temperature in our dishwasher and toys & equipment are cleaned on a regular basis.
