It is our absolute priority to keep children safe while they are in our care.
Our premises have been checked and they meet the national standards for childminding outlined by Ofsted. We also regularly review, update and practice safety routines, as well as carrying out daily health and safety risk assessments.
As a registered childminding setting, we are legally required to have valid paediatric first-aid certificates at all times. We can administer basic first-aid treatment, and our first-aid box is clearly labelled and easily accessible within the playroom and a further first aid kit can be found in the car, both kits are regularly checked and all contents maintained and within date.
We hold written permission from parents to get emergency treatment for their child if it is needed, this is a legal requirement.
If there is an accident:
First, we will reassure the injured child while making sure that the other children in our care are safe. This may mean strapping a baby in a buggy or sitting an older child somewhere safe where they can be seen.
Then, if possible, we will deal with the accident. If not, we will ring 999 for assistance.
Should a child in our care be required to attend hospital, Colin will accompany the child while Allyson will continue to care for the other children in the setting. If we accompany or take a child to hospital, we will contact the parents and ask them to meet Colin at the hospital.
As a registered childminding setting we have a legal requirement to inform Ofsted of any serious accident/incident in line with the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage. (May 2008).
If there is an incident, accident or emergency, it may be necessary to contact you, and you may be expected to collect your child straight away.
If we are able to deal with the accident ourselves, then we will inform the parent(s)/carers either by telephone, text, or Email if deemed necessary, or, in the case of minor accidents, through the use of our accident/incident book. All accidents/incidents will be recorded in our accident/incident book, signed off, and the parent(s)/carers issued with a copy for their records.
We will do our best at all times to make sure the children in our care are safe, reassured and kept calm.
